Free Easter Cards

Somewhere between March and April in the calendar year, Christians across the world, start getting ready for Easter Sunday. A quarter of a year after celebrating the birth of the messiah, Jesus Christ, the time comes to celebrate his resurrection.

Easter is a time for new beginnings, for starting afresh and leaving the past behind. Easter Sunday is celebrated throughout the Christian world for being the day on which Jesus Christ rose up from the dead three days after he had been crucified. This was the day on which Christians realized that “the Lord is come”. However, the celebration of Easter dates back to a time predating the life of Jesus Christ.

Originally, the Pagans celebrated the coming of spring on the day of the vernal equinox when day and night were of equal length. In those ancient times, the Anglo-Saxons had a Goddess of spring, Eostre, who was worshipped to signal the departure of winter and the arrival of spring and sunny skies.

The term “Easter” came from the name of this Goddess because Christian missionaries who had taken upon themselves to convert people and lead them to God’s grace needed a common terminology in order to connect with the people. Thus, the Pagan spring festival was given a Christian coloring, which persists to this date.
